Picnic Spots for the Bank Holiday Weekend!

With a bank holiday weekend comes my tradition of updating the office about the weather every half hour.  Locally, it looks like we are blessed with good weather (or at least warm and dry) for much of the weekend, unfortunately other parts of the UK won’t be so lucky.  If you plan on getting outside, look no further than these fab spots in and around Windsor.

Alexandra Gardens:
This scenic park situated on the edge of the River Thames is a great family friendly park to visit with the kids.  The gardens are situated close to the town centre so there should be plenty of parking even at the peak of the bank holiday.  The park is host to Edward’s Amusements, a small collection of fairground rides, rock climbing and a mini golf course to keep the little ones entertained.  Just across the road the river stretches for miles in either direction offering wonderful walks.

Snow Hill:
Snow Hill may sound unfamiliar to many; however it is instantly recognisable and much photographed.  Snow hill is the opposite end of the Long Walk, the iconic viewpoint for Windsor Castle.  Located 2.64 miles from the Castle, it is also the home of the Copper Statue of King George III atop his mount.  Viewers of Harry and Meghan’s Wedding will recognise the spot as the backdrop of the BBC Broadcast, as well as the location of the Wedding procession.

Savill Gardens:
By its own admission “Britain’s Finest Ornamental Garden” Savill Gardens is one of Windsor Great Park’s grandest features.  The Savill building serves as a great hub for many of the first-class attractions.  From the Cumberland Obelisk to the Totem Pole or even the manicured lawns of Guards Polo Club, the grounds have plenty of attraction for any sunny day.  If you have the time, take a walk through the Ornamental Garden which features seasonal highlights to ensure it is looking lush all year round.  If you don’t fancy bringing in your own picnic, the Savill building has its own selection of food including Wood Fired Pizzas and my personal favourite, the fish finger sandwich.
